Petrina specialises in general commercial law, with a focus on business and corporate structuring and business succession, commercial property transactions, local government governance, and industrial relations.
She advises local government as well as public and private sector clients. Her experience includes:
- Acting for the vendor in the sale of its business (a mixed use adventure tourism operation) to a listed company, with a total transaction value of in excess of $15.4M. Her role included drafting appropriate special conditions and managing the extensive due diligence. The purchasers were represented by Sydney firm Bird & Bird.
- Acting for the vendor in the disposal of a $7.5M Cairns CBD site, including drafting appropriate special conditions and managing the due diligence.
- Acting for a local government purchaser in the acquisition and leaseback of a CBD site, with a transaction value of $5.7M.
- Acting for a local government in respect of its governance and assessment of a tender process for preferred suppliers.
Petrina has also acted for local governments in industrial relations disputes, including a Commission hearing and subsequent settlement of claims and termination of staff.
Before starting her legal career, Petrina worked for the state government in management positions in human resources, finance, policy and funding. This gives her a unique strategic insight into the sector which she applies for the benefit of her clients in her legal practice.
Petrina is involved in several local and community organisations, including as a board member of YETI, a Cairns youth organisation helping young people in need.
